Disciplining without the Cane

Where did we get the crazy idea that in order to make children do better, first, we have to make them feel worse? Most adults are used to thinking firmness means punishment or caning. Not so! Firmness, when combined with kindness, means respect for the child, for you and the situation. Positive disciplining has nothing to do with yelling, bribing or threatening. It’s about creating motivation to get the child to do what you desire.
